What a UK master's really costs

Everything, in rupees. Tuition, the surcharge nobody budgets for, the visa, the flight, and every month of rent and food after you land — minus what a part-time job actually pays.

Your course

London costs more, in rent and in what UKVI expects you to show.

A one-year UK master's is 12 months, including the dissertation.

The full course fee printed on the offer letter or CAS.

What your loan has to cover

If family savings cover part of this, borrow the rest — not the whole figure. Work out the EMI on ₹42,52,460 before you sign anything, because that number follows you for the next seven to ten years.

Tuition is roughly half of it. The rest is the healthcare surcharge, the visa fee, the flight, the first weeks of setting up, and then rent and food every month for a year. This calculator adds all of it in rupees, and subtracts what part-time work can realistically bring in.

Which numbers are official

Exact, from GOV.UK, checked on 21 August 2026: the visa fee of £558, the healthcare surcharge at £776 a year, the UKVI maintenance rates of £1,529 and £1,171 a month, and the National Living Wage of £12.71 an hour.

Everything else — rent, food, transport, flights, setup — is an estimate you can and should edit. No government publishes those, they move with the city and the year, and a budget built on someone else's guess is not a budget.
