The loan
The sanctioned amount, not the total cost.
Collateral loans run lower than no-collateral ones.
Repayment pauses, interest does not. It is added to the principal.

Where these figures come from
Tax and National Insurance use the published 2026/27 rates, last checked on 21 August 2026: a £12,570 Personal Allowance, 20% to £50,270, then 40%, with employee NI at 8% on monthly pay above £1,048. Pension contributions and any UK student loan are excluded, since an overseas graduate has neither by default.
We do not guess your salary. A typical graduate salary is a range, not a published figure, so inventing one would put the least trustworthy number on this page. The two shortcuts above are real Home Office thresholds for sponsored Skilled Worker roles: £33,400 for a new entrant and £41,700 generally. They are floors, not averages.
A planning aid, not financial advice. Exchange rates move, salaries vary by role and city, and the verdict thresholds here are our judgement rather than anyone's rule.
If the number looks wrong, the plan is what changes
A cheaper city, a shorter moratorium, a collateral loan instead of an unsecured one. Fifteen minutes, free, and we will tell you honestly if the maths does not work.
